World Environment Day Celebrations: a Student Action Forum

On Wednesday the 11th of June Nathan, Jesse and Jordie went to Kaikorai Valley College for a gathering of people who went to the cleaning up the Kaikorai stream last Friday for world environment day. There were about 25 people at the meeting but you were only aloud to bring three people from each school. When we got to Kaikorai Valley College we all met in school library Mr Cragie the principal made a speech about the Kaikorai stream. After the speech we all got this sheet it had questions on it which you had to ask the other people questions one of the questions was do you know were the stream ends another question was could you name three living creatures in the stream. After that we were put into little groups. In the groups we were told that we had to think up questions to ask the guests that were coming to answer our questions. After we thought up our questions they gave us some morning tea they had biscuits and some juices. We then had some a play outside. When we went inside the guests were here there was a man from the Dunedin City Council, a man from fish and game, a lady from Otago Regional Council and a man from the Dunedin Environment Centre we asked them questions like what was there job they did for the stream after they had finished answering we had some lunch they had some sandwiches some mandarins, pears and bananas if we ate all of our fruits and sandwiches we were a little slice of fudge. After everyone had finished there lunch we went on a bug hunt we mostly found mayflies and one person found a crayfish like creature we did that for about 40 minutes after that in our little groups we made posters of which we would like to see happening to the stream in the future. Then it was 2:30 so we had to go back to school.
